Brookside Gardens, June 30th

It was a steamy hot day, but seven braved the heat at the magnificent Brookside Gardens.  The day began with a drizzle, but sadly it did nothing to cool the temperature or humidity.  You could see the thick air under the gray skies.

There is so much to paint at Brookside Gardens.  Artists painted in the ornamental gardens, the fragrance garden, the Reflecting Pond and Japanese Tea House, and various paths.  At the visitor’s center, I learned about changes at Brookside since last year.  Sadly, the rose garden was removed.  The roses were over 50 years old and were determined to be at the end of their lives.  I wondered what happened when I couldn’t find them. There were some new sculptures, including a gorgeous lit “world” made of metal in the center of the Maple Terrace fountain and a wood sculpture carved from an ancient tree that was original to the property.

Passersby were very friendly and one couple shared pictures of the Garden in the snow.  Brookside doesn’t disappoint in all seasons.

We met up for the critique, but all agreed that it was so hot that we would just admire each other’s work.  Truly everyone had fantastic paintings.
