September Paint Out in Old Town Alexandria

On Saturday, September 22nd members gathered for a paint out in Old Town Alexandria to celebrate the opening of our exhibit at the Principle Gallery the evening before. The paint out coincided with the very popular King Street Art Festival for which a good portion of King Street was closed to traffic. Our artists were asked to paint wherever they wished morning or afternoon. Artists were provided with yellow flags with Principle Gallery printed on them and the gallery put the word out to their collectors to keep an eye out for those flags if they wanted to watch the paintings in progress.

The skies were beautiful and the weather was warm and sunny after a cloudy start. Most members gathered along the waterfront, many at Founders Park and some were early birds! After completing the painting she started at dawn, Christine Lashley gave a painting demo at the gallery.  Other members such as Gray Dodson, David Diaz and Jean Schwartz opted to be in the thick of things and painted the festival tents, outdoor café’s and Market Square.

Many of the wet paintings were framed and taken to the Principle Gallery to be exhibited along with the rest of the WSLP works on exhibit.  It was great fun!
