October Mid-Week Paint Out on the Eastern Shore
Lani Browning and Hai - Ou Hou hosted a mid-week paint out on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Artists could paint anywhere in Queen Anne's County or take advantage of the lovely grounds and view from Hai-Ou's Chesapeake Fine Art Studio on Thompson Creek. Meg Walsh and Lynn Mehta chose to paint urban scenes in the charming historic town of Stevensville. Hai-Ou painted a view of her garden and statuary from inside the studio, while others took advantage of the still balmy weather and set up outside on the grounds of the studio school. Jill Basham, Nancy Tankersley and Sara Poly liked the long views across the soybean fields. Lani Browning attempted a boat parked in the studio yard.
Everyone met in the studio at noon for lunch and critique. Interesting discussion on using, and who was using, a limited palette ...Nancy limited her palette to three colors + white ( hansa yellow light, ultramarine blue, alizarin crimson); Lani: white + lemon yellow, prussian blue and alizarin crimson; Jill used a few more colors: indian yellow, yellow ochre, ultramarine blue, cobolt blue, radiant blue, alizarin crimson and cadmium red. Sara's choices were white + radiant yellow, ultramarine blue and manganese blue.
We were joined by Hai-Ou's new chicken (un-named so far), and Lani, Meg and Lynn shared information and postcards about their upcoming shows.
