February 25th Great Falls Paint Out

Great Falls, whether on the Virginia side or Maryland side of the Potomac has been one of the most visited spots for painting through the years by members of WSLP. One never feels disappointed after seeing the splendor of the falls at any time of the year. This was no exception as the falls seemed especially thunderous this week. The day started off clear and cold as painters slowly began arriving at the park. We set up our easels at a variety of lookout points, focusing on the falls, the rocks, and trees. As the day grew a little warmer (maybe near 50?), certainly not expected for February weather, the park became more populated with visitors- many with kids, dogs, and even a cat on a leash! Several visitors stopped to peer over our shoulders to catch a glimpse what we were capturing on canvas. We all met around noon near the visitor center at the picnic tables to view each other's work for the day. Such a wide variety of approaches to the subject matter, and what fun to catch up with artist friends, many of whom we haven't seen for a few months! Artists included Bob Thoren, Catherine Hillis, Lynn Mehta, Pattee Hipschen, David Diaz, Rajendra KC, Hai-Ou Hou, Leanne Fink (Guest) and Ray Burns.
