WSLP met at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens yesterday in collaboration with the DC State Fair organization. The event was intended to promote the arts and make the public aware of WSLP and all that we do. It was a lovely day, luckily much cooler than the heat wave that preceded on the days before nine members were in attendance as well as 5 guests. The lotus blossoms were still in bloom and several members chose that as their inspiration. It was so good to get back together after a long period of separation!
In attendance:
Bernie Dellario, Barbara Nuss, Christine Drewyer, Andrei Kushnir, Bob Thoren, Meg Walsh, Pattee Hipschen, Jill Banks, Lida Stifel

The four WSLP paint-out artists who showed up in Manassas for the monthly paint-out today were: Ray Burns, David Diaz, Pattee Hipschen and Andrei Kushnir. On a hot & humid day, they each staked out preferred subject matter, at various points around the historic railroad station. A religious service with inspiring gospel music was being held in the nearby pavilion, which added to the intensely spiritual experiences of the artists. At noon, the artists met for the critique, which went well, with no fights, insults or denunciations. The artists actually seemed to enjoy each other's company, boldly acknowledging that their compatriots were able to still create compelling, interesting and highly individual images despite the sweltering heat. Reluctantly, the artists parted ways, each with their treasure created on this memorable day.
