Artists interested in becoming members of the Society must first be sponsored by a current WSLP member and attend at least two scheduled paint-outs to meet the members and enjoy the camaraderie. The two paint-outs must be in the twelve months prior to applying for membership. In addition, the more paint-outs attended, the better your experience will be.
Once the applicant has met their paintout requirements, the sponsor should determine if
they are ready for jurying and notify the membership chairperson. Applicants will be juried
by their position of the applicant queue. If the applicant at the top of the list is not ready,
those below will be considered.
At that point, the sponsor will submit by email to the membership chairperson and the
president four images of an applicant’s landscape paintings completed within the past two
years. The sponsor and applicant should select the paintings based on composition, color,
values, perspective, paint handling, etc. that are prepared for professional gallery
presentation. The paintings may be plein air or studio pieces but should convey a sense of
completeness and intentional design. The sponsor should also submit a personal
recommendation as well as pertinent information including the applicant’s art background,
experience, education, website, and other art credentials.
If elected for membership, attendance at two paint-outs a year (out of fifteen plus additional mid-week outings) and one meeting a year (out of four) is required for continued membership.
