Burke Lake Part Paint-out, Fairfax, Virginia September 24, 2026

The temperatures were in the lower 60s, with a stiff (REALLY) stiff wind, but Vicki Blum, Lynn Goldstein, and Hiu Lai Chong braved the breezes, and enjoyed a morning of painting and sketching together. Vicki and Lynn set up in a shady area to look out at the lake and be among the trees.  Hiu Lai set up right next to the water in an area that got a bit more sunshine, but was also on the cold side due to the windy conditions.

After painting, we gathered around the lake to take a look at the work that we produced, talk about supplies, and discuss all things art. It was a great morning, even though a bit on the chilly side.

Havre de Grace Paint Out, Sept. 27th

Attendee: Lisa Mitchell

Upon arrival, the Nor’easter was bringing whipping wind and rain to the quaint historic town of Havre De Grace, MD. I wasn’t surprised to be the only artist that showed up for this paint-out! It was the last paint out of the season that I was able to attend so I decided to do a small gouache painting using my“mobile” plein-air set up. It’s handy when you know the weather might be a problem. I pulled up across from the Concord Lighthouse and proceeded to paint a small piece. A few local residents and their dogs hurried past but otherwise all I could hear was the wind and the distant train whistle. It was not a day I would normally venture out to paint on location but it was peaceful and I enjoyed watching the heavy rain move out over the water. Missed the usual gathering of artists at the conclusion. Maybe next time..

Frederick Paint Out August 30th

Five of us gathered on the Promenade at Carroll Creek Linear Park, in Frederick, Maryland this past Saturday - August 30. The morning's weather was mixed with gray overcast and occasional peek-a-boo sunshine. Some of the artists zoomed in for close up paintings of lily pads, flowers and reflections in the creek...some artists looked outward at the promenade, the gardens, the bridge and the people. It was a small group - but fun does not need size. Families strolling the promenade with their children felt comfortable engaging us...regaling us with compliments and questions...even volunteering to take our group photo. We met at the retaining wall at the Caroll street bridge, in the shadow of the Delaplane Arts Center for critique and fellowship. Much fun had by all!

Artists in attendance were: Rajendra KC, Lisa Mitchell, David Diaz, Chris Rapa and John Eiseman.
