March 30th, Peirce Mill Paint Out
WSLP Paintout: Peirce Mill, Rock Creek Park, DC 3/30/25
Spring was winning out over winter, with cherry tree blossoms at peak, bright rafts of daffodils, and the trees haloed in a gauzy fizz of bright green emergent leaves and red maple flowers. The day began under a wooly overcast, pleasantly cool and still, but by midmorning the clouds disappeared and temperatures became quite summery. This provided brilliant light and shadow, but also a challenge for those who had started their paintings before the atmospheric regime change. The park offered historic stone buildings, curving paths, aggregations of daffodils, blooming trees, and plenty of compositions that could be built from rocks, trees, and the running creek. After a chilly and persistently windy month, it was a beautiful day to put the landscape on canvas.
