October 27th Paint Out, Canal

Our October paint out was scheduled to be at Fletcher's Boathouse. Pattee Hipschen alerted all by email that access to Fletcher's Boathouse would be blocked due to the route of the Marine Corps Marathon. Two intrepid painters arrived at Fletcher's prior to the road closures, Ted Reed and guest Amy Mann, and were happily able to paint away. Amid the location confusion it was decided to meet at Swain's Lock, farther up the C&O Canal and away from the Marathon. Lida Stifel didn't receive the message until later and opted to paint at Pennyfield Lock. Ray Burns, Vicki Blum, Rajendra KC, Lynn Mehta, and guests Alison Barry and Freeman Dodsworth met at Swain's Lock and enjoyed a beautiful day of painting along the canal and Potomac River. An extra treat was getting a tour of the inside of the Lockhouse by a Canal Quarters program volunteer.

March 27th Paint Out, Jones Point

It was a typical March day....rain with fog, and a cold chill in the air. Intrepid painters Bethanne Cople and Jean Schwartz, along with the two fabulous artists, Katie Flack and Laura Bollettino Bethanne is sponsoring, met to capture the scene. We painted at Jones Point, Alexandria VA, under the cover of the Woodrow Wilson bridge, until our fingers grew too numb to paint and the rain to hard to ignore. But the atmosphere!!!!!!! So worth the discomfort as any plein air painter will tell you!!
