Mid-week Paint-out at Bon Air Rose Garden

In attendance: Trisha Adams, Marietje Chamberlain, Joellen Murphy, Bobbi Pratte and Jean Schwartz.

On Friday May 26th, five members of WSLP gathered at the Bon Air Rose Garden in Arlington VA for a mid-week paint out.
The weather co-operated nicely, with the temperatures just about perfect, even if the sun did come and go at times.

The roses were putting on a lovely display, but all of the painters were attracted to the beautiful perennial garden. Poppies, delphinium, primrose and day lilies were in full bloom and they were an inspiration to everyone.

April 2017 Paint Out at the National Arboretum

April 30, 2017 Paint Out

National Arboretum, Washington DC

In attendance:

Web Bryant WSLP, Tom Ritchie MAPAPA, Christine Drewyer WSLP, Bernie Dellario WSLP, Barbara Nuss WSLP/MAPAPA, Alison Leigh Menke MAPAPA, Glenda Keyes MAPAPA, Nancy Wallace WSLP, Hiu Lai Chong WSLP/MAPAPA, Bob Thoren, WSLP

The WSLP joined with the MAPAPA to paint at the wonderful National Arboretum. We were very lucky to catch a large number of the azaleas in full bloom. The arboretum is a treasure for anyone who paints landscapes and having a group of people from MAPAPA to share the day was especially nice.

It was a very April day in that it was overcast and  in the low 40’s at 9:AM, then bright and in the 80’s by Noon. The first law of painting outside was broken by a number of us. Do not chase the shadows. This was the first real sun block and bug spray paint out of the year, but the group was well seasoned and was dressed for the challenge.

The National Arboretum will become even more of a Washington wonder in three years. Last October, the US gave 22 acres of the park to China to build a ancient Chinese garden. It will  cost the Chinese over 120 million dollars. It will be gifted to the Park service for all of us to enjoy. I have been to the one in Vancouver and it is extraordinary.
