OCCOQUAN REGIONAL PARK, OCTOBER 15, 2025
WSLP members Amy Waldrop and Lynn Goldstein were joined by guests Alison Barry and Phoebe Peterson for a paint out at Occoquan Regional Park in Lorton, Virginia.
It was one of those perfect autumn days—crisp air, golden trees, and light that made you wish you had brought two extra canvases. Occoquan Park is a hidden gem with water views, a canopy of color, and even a sculpture garden honoring the Suffragists who were imprisoned nearby at the Lorton Workhouse in the early 1900s.
Amy found a quiet area overlooking the water, while Lynn set up on the covered bridge, where the wind seemed determined to become part of her composition. Lynn moved later to get out of the wind, and make another start. Phoebe soaked up the sun (literally) from the second deck of Brickmaker’s Café, and Alison painted a peaceful area framed by trees.
Afterward, Amy, Lynn, and Phoebe gathered on the café deck for lunch and a little show-and-tell—though in truth, Lynn’s paintings were still in her car. Alison had to head out early, but all agreed it was a beautiful morning of painting, laughter, and good company.

What's better than painting in Italy? Painting with friends in Italy! |
|
Five WSLP members embarked on an Italian painting trip in Umbria -- Trisha Adams, Jill Banks, Vicki Blum, John Eiseman, and Chris Rapa.
Home base was La Romita School of Art which is in an old monastery. We soaked up the beauty of many churches with stunning architecture, paintings and sculptures and we painted the quiet corners that make Italy so charming. These snapshots give you the flavor of the trip. |

This waterfall was built in 271 BC by the Romans. They turn on the water for a couple hours each day and it is magnificent. This was my favorite place to paint of the entire trip! Billowing clouds of mist and rainbows everywhere! |

Our September paint out was fantastic. The day was sunny and warm as a large group of WSLP members and guests met at Belle Haven Park in Alexandria, VA, for our monthly paint out. Most wandered over to Belle Haven Marina to paint the sailboats at the docks and anchored in the inlet. The water was calm, the sky was blue with puffy clouds and the goldenrod was in full bloom. There wasn't a bad place to paint. As people arrived at the marina, the sails started to unfurl, giving most a chance to quickly paint a sailboat in its full glory. Some started painting at sunrise when the water and sky were lavender and pink. Others captured the large expanse of the Potomac River in the early morning. Most couldn't resist different views of the boats, some surprisingly abandoned and sinking, others in active use or anchored in the inlet from an overnight stay. It was a great location that we all agreed we must visit again.
