Paintout at Brenda Kidera’s, Woodbine, MD, June 21, 2019
After being oppressed by days of humidity and storm threats a stiff breeze ushered in a cool, dry day. Rafts of clouds gave way to an impossibly blue sky, and there were endless possibilities for painting compositions in Brenda’s sumptuous gardens, ponds, and woods. Daylilies, water lilies, potted plants, bright orange goldfish, and even a lawn chair soaking up the sun caught the painters’ attention in oil, watercolor, and pastel. After a morning’s work, the group gathered for a lunch provided by Brenda: chicken salad, potato salad, fresh berries, and, of course, her delectable signature molasses bread. Birds, dragonflies, swallowtail butterflies, damselflies, and even a contented toad made appearances on this beautiful summer solstice painting day.
Attending were: Mimi Hegler, Mary Kokoski, Barbara Nuss, Hiu Lai Chong , JoEllen Murphy, Tara Will (guest), Bob Thoren, Barry Lindley, and, of course, Brenda Kidera.

It was a rare early summer day with flawless blue sky, a bit of New England weather to relieve the humid, often stormy pattern that has dominated the season so far. Four WSLP members painted along the waterfront just behind the Visitor’s Center. Shaded by large, leafy trees we had vistas of the urban and industrial landscape across the river, including colossal vessels with their steely gray hulls. Tugboats and the water taxi plied the water, and we were treated to the passage of a large, stately, two-masted sailing ship that, like a Hollywood celebrity, begged to be included in the paintings. (One of us quickly drew the ship, then built the rest of the painting around it and hoped the composition would work.) All agreed that it was a perfect day for plein air, and enjoyed the experience.
In attendance: Nancy Tankersley, Lisa Egeli, Jill Banks (guest), and Mary Kokoski (organizer)

WSLP members were invited guests at Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library, March 28 thru 31 in Winterthur, DE. Members painted among Winterthur's 1,000 acres of rolling hills, streams, meadows, and forests. We enjoyed Winterthur’s first-ever exhibition of garden follies, thirteen fantastic structures ranging from a Gothic-inspired tower, an Ottoman tent, a Chinese pavilion, American summerhouses and an enchanting faerie cottage.

Some made it a day trip while others stayed overnight and painted multiple days.

Six painters assembled at Lida Stifel's "Farmette" on Turkey Foot Road in North Potomac on Sunday, May 26. It was a warm and beautiful day with lots to paint around us. We coaxed the sheep to show themselves, but the flock had been shorn the day before, so they were shy and stayed in their barn. Roses bloomed, birds sang out loud, and the Koi swam their circles. Lida invited all to a fabulous lunch served on her back patio. Thank you Lida, we hope we may visit again!
In attendance:
Mimi Hegler, Marietje Chamberlain, Bill Schmidt, Andrei Kushnir, Ray Burns,
