  PLEIN AIR PAINTOUTS

  Great Falls Park, Mclean, VA
March 27, 2011
(Report and photos by Hiu Lai Chong)

Although the forecast was for snow, only a very light snow fell but it was soon melted away by the sun. The water seemed to have a lot more volume at this time of year. It was quite pleasant to paint with the falls in the background along with the steady drone of rapidly rushing water. Hiu Lai Chong set up at the first overlook. John Bellinger came around 9 AM with a camera and was taking pictures. Jack Pardue came out and chose to paint in oil rather than pastel this time. Marietje chose quite a unique scene, the reflection of sun in the water, which turned out to have a very nice feeling. Guest artist Steve Moen was attracted by the trees with roots that faced the water, and Hai-Ou Hou was excited about her first time visiting Great Falls. She also painted at the overlook.

Members attending were John Bellinger, Marietje Chamberlain, Hiu-Lai Chong, and Jack Pardue. Guests attending were Hai-Ou Hou, and Steve Moen.
