  PLEIN AIR PAINTOUTS

  Manassas National Battlefield Park
Manassas, Virginia

June 26, 2011
(Report by Barry Lindley and photos by Barry Lindley, Sarita Moffat, and Christine Lashley)

It was a fine day for painting in this historic setting with rolling hills, rail fences, and cannons. 10th Virginia Infantry Regiment re-enactors with their red shirts even made an appearance in late morning, too late to be featured in paintings but providing photo opportunities for studio work.

The day was a little overcast until 9:00 or so, but sunny and moderate the rest of the day, reaching the mid-80s with a slight breeze. The bright sun created some good shadow definition; it would a great setting for sky painters on the right occasion. WSLP turnout was light, with four members. We met for lunch under a tree at the Henry Hill Visitors Center, then had a useful mutual critique among the three remaining members - Christine having left before lunch.

Members attending were Gray Dodson, Christine Lashley, Barry Lindley, and Sarita Moffat.
