  PLEIN AIR PAINTOUTS

  Black Hill Regional Park
Boyds, MD

August 11, 2011
(Report by Barbara Nuss and photos by Lisa Egeli, Brenda Kidera, Barbara Nuss, Bill Schmidt and guest Anne Gibson Snyder)

After many weeks of hot, humid, and hazy days, the weather finally turned beautiful for the paintout. One of the guests said it reminded her of summer in the Adirondacks, definitely not Montgomery County in August. Low humidity, temperatures in the 70's, blue sky, and a gentle breeze blowing off the lake all contributed to a bunch of happy painters eager to take advantage of such optimal conditions.

Black Hill Regional Park is an enormous area with many vistas and some nooks and crannies as well. The kayakers, canoeists, and hikers were all out in full force along with the Canadian geese.

We met for lunch at the gazebo down by Little Seneca Lake where many of us had painted. After lunch, we critiqued the morning's work. Mimi and Genevieve had forged onto restricted property to paint their pieces. Most of the rest of us less adventurous souls were all down near the lake.

Glenn and Bill painted from the deck of the visitors' center giving themselves a neat aerial view of the lake. While Glenn was deep into his painting, a little kid came up behind him and stuck his finger in the blob of green paint on Glenn's palette. While Glenn was reaching for a paper towel to wipe it off, the little kid pre-empted him and wiped it on the back of Glenn's khakis. His grandmother, off smoking a cigarette, never saw a thing, of course.

Members attending were Lisa Egeli, Mimi Hegler, Brenda Kidera, Barbara Nuss, Glenn Perry, Genevieve Roberts, Bill Schmidt, and Dick Whitely. The guests were Catherine Hillis, Anne Gibson Snyder, and JoEllen Murphy.
