Richard Ray
Email: rray42@comcast.net Address: 11409 Farmland Drive, Rockville, MD 20852 Home Phone: (301) 881-1429 ARTIST'S STATEMENT Dick Ray is a landscape painter whose work in oils is executed in a somewhat loose style of expression, while preserving the realism of nature. Strong brush strokes freely applied to the canvas characterize his work that is done rapidly to provide spontaneity and to avoid overworking a scene. He considers composition to be of singular importance and gives particular attention to arranging the landscape elements into a pleasing design in his paintings. A native of New England, he is especially partial to the landscapes and seascapes of the northeast. RESUMEDick Ray is a self-taught oil painter who began dabbling with painting around the age of ten. During his working career with the Government, he often used his vacation time to paint with Galen Ray, who was a New England landscape artist. After retiring in 1982, he began to paint seriously, studying with nationally known artists Charles Movalli and George Chereov, painting primarily in Maine and Vermont. Over the years he has been a member of several art groups in Montgomery County, MD. He has exhibited extensively in the greater Washington, DC area. Joining the Washington Society of Landscape Painters in 1985, he was an active participant in Society affairs for nearly 20 years. He now paints primarily for the pleasure it brings to retirement years. |
