I am especially interested in painting neighborhoods in transition. I strive to capture such areas as they are today before they are built or paved over.

After a 35-year career as a journalist, Michael Heylin began painting watercolors in 1997. Born in London, England, he now lives in the Arlington, VA area where he has been for almost 30 years. He is especially interested in the Clarendon area of Arlington which is being developed commercially while striving to stay a viable and liveable neighborhood. He has also painted other city areas including Columbia Heights in DC and Locust Point in Baltimore.
