Technical Questions

circle What is your medium now? (oils, acrylic, pastel, watercolor...) What medium have you always wanted to use, but haven't yet? What mediums have you used in the past? Why do you prefer your current medium?

My medium past, present and future has been watercolor. I prefer watercolor painting because of its transparency.

The "Artistic Process"

circle What time of day are you most creative? Early morning? Afternoon? Early evening? Late at night? Which season do you feel most creative? Winter, Fall, Spring, Summer? Why?

I prefer to paint late at night. My creative seasons are Spring and Fall.

The "Business" of Art

circle What areas do you find especially helpful or rewarding in your art career? Do you give teach? Give workshops? Own a gallery? Author a book? Lecture? Participate in competitions (either as a painter or judge)? Describe your experiences.

The areas I find rewarding are my watercolor workshops. Also, guest speaking at various art societies. Also, I participate in many juried shows during the year as a painter.

Working Environment

circle Do you listen to music when you are painting? Have a TV on? If yes, what are your favorites? Do you use an ipod when painting outdoors? Or do you prefer silence?

I always listen to music when painting in my studio. My favorite choices are classical music. I never use an IPOD.

"The Artistic Life"

circle Let's talk about the creativity - where do you think the need to create comes from? (spiritual. intellectual, physical, etc.)

My creativity comes from a spiritual inspiration. However, usually I have to spend quite a bit of time working out an idea for a painting in my mind before I set brush to paper (studio painting only). For plein air painting, I let the sites, sounds, and smells of the scene location guide me.

"Personal Art History"

circleWhen did you first want to become an artist? (And when did you realize you were one?) Did you draw or paint as a child? What were your subjects?

When I was 13-years old, I realized I wanted to be an artist. This started the journey to where I am today. In my teens I got hooked on lots of pen and ink drawings until I attended Art School where I found my niche (watercolor painting).

"Inspiration"

circle Do you have a favorite art quote that inspires you?

My favorite quote which comes from Pablo Picasso is as "artists, we are required to turn a lie into a truth."

"Fantasy"

circle If you could travel anywhere to paint, where would you go and what would you like to paint?

If I could travel anywhere to paint I would return to Greece and probably reside on one of the islands. I would most likely paint many island scenes.

"Random"

circle Any advice for those contemplating life as an artist?

My best advice for those contemplating life as an artist is continuous practice by painting every single day of your life.

circle What would you like to comment on or share that you haven't been asked?

Critiques at WSLP meetings are a waste! Why would you ask, because everyone sees things differently? Over the years, I have participated in many of these sessions and have perceived members criticizing for the sake of criticizing, which makes no sense.
