My civil engineering background is apparent in my choice of the structural objects that inspire my paintings. With an interest in shapes and light, I approach my subject as if it is in darkness and then suddenly it is illuminated by a brilliant light source.

In addition to Al's civil engineering background, he has studied art at Montgomery College in Rockville, MD; the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC; and the DuCret School of Art in Plainfield, NJ.
