SEPTEMBER 24, 2006

notes and photos by Margaret Huddy

Sunday, Sept. 24 dawned bright and promising. With great enthusiasm Margaret Huddy, Yolanda Fredrickse and John Bellinger set out early for the paintout at Pierce Mill in Rock Creek Park. Due to the running of a marathon inside the beltway poor John and Yolanda got caught going around in circles trying to find an open road. It took John 1.5 hours to get there, Yolanda, a little less.

Margaret arrived from Virginia with no problem at 8:30 am only to spot raindrops on the path as she unloaded her gear. She persisted and set up her watercolors under her trusty umbrella attached to her easel and managed a not too bad half sheet watercolor albeit a lot of green. Yolanda arrived next and bravely sat in the ensuing showers painting with water based oils. She had a fine beginning but lacking an umbrella finally gave up in fear that the paint would wash away and left early. John arrived very frustrated in the middle of a shower. He set up under a tree but gave up when the drips became large drops and he left in disgust. Margaret persisted till noon at which point Ken Petrie arrived and began to work, intending to stay until 4 or 5 PM. Therefore there was no critique. Margaret painted the stream, wishing it was a little later in the fall and there were more colors to get excited about. Yolanda painted the mill but it was lacking much range of values due to the clouds.

Four Members present: Bellinger, Frederikse, Huddy, and Petrie
