BLACK HILLS REGIONAL PARK GAITHERSBURG, MD
NOVEMBER 26, 2006

(notes and photos by Dick Whiteley)

WSLP painters were given a bonus day in November, sunny, warm and dry , except for a cool breeze in the shade. Seneca Lake was still , with just a few boaters to ruffle the water, and a few Canada Geese, giving us great reflections to work on and the geese to add wildlife interest to field sketches. Nine members turned out, which is good for November. Some artists chose the boat ramp area where there were spectacular views down the length of the lake to the far shore line. Others chose a small cove near the visitors center, where there was great color still in the trees, which reflected in the near water, and where there was a distant view of the opposite bank with some farm buildings and a silo. Some very nice sketches resulted from this profusion of inspiration.

Lunch and critique were held at the Gazebo near the visitors center, which turned out to be a poor location choice, as it was by far the coldest place on the lake, in the shade and with a stiff breeze coming of the water. This had the effect of speeding up lunch and cutting short the critique, however all of us enjoyed the day and some stayed on to paint in the afternoon.

Nine WSLP Members present: Altaffer, Barber, Cooper, Corn, Frederikse, Kuentz, Nuss, Piegari and Whitely.
