NATIONAL CATHEDRAL, WASHINGTON,DC MAY 26, 2007 (Photos and notes by Barbara Nuss) Only three of us plus two guests turned out for the paintout at the National Cathedral. This was the first time WSLP had tried a Saturday paintout. It’s a good thing there weren’t more of us. When I arrived at 8:30, the Cathedral lawn was jammed with people in their Sunday best clothes all turned out for a big event. After asking a priest, I learned that the event was the confirmation of the Virginia bishop! There were bishops, priests, and other members of the Episcopal clergy from all over the mid-Atlantic region, plus hundreds of others. It was quite a fancy do! The Bishop’s garden was lovely, the roses had just finished blooming and their fragrance kept wafting by me as I painted. The cathedral bells rang from 10:00 to 10:30 when the ceremony started. It was over about 12:45 and the bells rang some more! It was a beautiful day, but we certainly didn’t have the place to ourselves. At noon, I wandered over to the green where we were to meet for lunch. There were buffet tables laid out, and I thought, “Oh, Ed, you shouldn’t have fussed!” (Ed Cooper is the paintout chair.) But alas, they weren’t for us. So Bernie, Ken, the two guests, and I huddled in the gazebo next to the green for the lunch and critique. As I say, it’s a good thing there weren’t more of us. Three Members present at the critique: Ken Petrie, Bernie Dellario, Barbara Nuss, and two guests: Jeanean Songco Martin and Paul Salmon.
