WASHINGTON GROVE, MD APRIL 29, 2007 (Photos and notes by Ed Cooper) A WSLP member, Glenn Perry, lives in Washington Grove and was kind enough to offer his house as our headquarters during the paintout. Washington Grove is a very compact and charming village. It was started as a place for Methodist camp meetings and has lots of slightly eccentric, nicely colored architecture. One of the most interesting parts of town was the "circle" and it's radiating avenues - Johnson Alley, Acorn Lane and Dorsey Street. They are called "avenues" but in effect they are walking paths. Actually, "The Circle" itself is a walking path that can only be reached by other walking paths. In Washington Grove the avenues are walkways and the roads are roadways. Therefore you can drive down Grove Road but don't try it on Grove Avenue because you'll make a lot of pedestrians and probably a few police officers very unhappy. Potential painting subjects were not limited to the town itself. There was a railroad with a train shed and a one lane "hump back" bridge, a grain silo to the west, and verdant fields adjacent to Ridge Road. And the weatherman was nice to us for a change. It was a perfect day - warm and sunny. The azaleas, dogwoods and bluebells were in bloom and the trees were getting just enough green to be interesting but not so much as to obscure the houses and streets. We met at Glenn's house for lunch and the critique of the members and guest's paintings.
12 members and one guest were present: Cohen, Cooper, Dellario, Heylin, J. Jaecks, H. Jaecks, Kokoski, Nuss, Perry, Piegari, Ray, Schmidt, and guest Meg Walsh.
