  PLEIN AIR PAINTOUTS

The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts
Hagerstown, MD

November 29, 2009
(Report and Photos by Nancy Tankersley and Ed Cooper)

It turned out to be a surprisingly sunny and somewhat warm day in Hagerstown. We met individually as we passed each other looking for the right scene to paint, or while we were looking for a restroom that was not closed and locked - an unforeseen circumstance. Barbara and Nancy painted across the pond from different directions. Glenn Perry got himself into what must have been a very uncomfortable position on a steep slope leading down to the pond. It was one of those situations where you need one leg to be considerably shorter than the other. That works on a tripod, but not on a human body. Guest Steve Moen and Ed Cooper, more intrigued by architectural subjects, turned their backs to the pond and painted in the opposite direction.

We had our critique at 12:30 and then at 1:00 we entered the museum to view Garnet Jex's paintings of Harpers Ferry. We also found quite a few other gems among the museum's collection.

Members present: Ed Cooper, Barbara Nuss, Glenn Perry and Nancy Tankersley along with guest Steve Moen.
