Jewels sparkled in the ponds despite another gray day in DC and low tide on the Anacostia River: Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens in all its glory. The lotus, even though not quite at the height of their display and abundance, stretched their enormous pink and white blooms feet above the water. They overshadowed the more humble, but gorgeous water lilies dancing in the water.

Uninspired by the muddy flats left by the receding river, most artists opted to paint the ponds with the twinkling lilies. The sketches here show the lilies and lily ponds, possibly easier to incorporate into a landscape since they were floating on the water. Artists in attendance were John Bellinger, Andrei Kushni, Bernie Dellario, Sarita Moffat, Barbara Nuss, Sara Poly, Bill Schmidt, and Nancy Tankersley.
