Fletcher's Boathouse Washington, DC January 25, 2009 (Report and Photos by Ed cooper) It was a cold day with morning temperatures around 16 degrees - and it didn't warm up very fast even though the sun was out and the sky was clear. Fortunately there was no wind most of the day so it was tolerable. The water colorists were particularly distressed because their paint froze the minute they touched their brush to the watercolor paper. They waited in vain for the temperature to increase but it never quite seemed to get warm enough. So they settled for making ice paintings. Of course at this same time the oil painters were struggling with cold and thick paint - but who said outdoor painting was supposed to be easy? We had the critique and the after-critique-discussion while absorbing heat from a charcoal brazier, drinking hot chocolate, or just plain hot water, along with a variety of other hot drinks brought by individuals in thermoses. Members Present: Ed Ahlstrom, Ed Cooper, Yolanda Frederickse, Bruce Handford, Andrei Kushnir, Louis Negri, Glenn Perry, Daniel Wise, and guests Louis Escobedo and Lorrie Herman. ![]() |
