  Crooked Intention
St Michaels, MD

August 13, 2009
(Report and Photos by Nancy Tankersley)

The August 13th, Thursday paintout was held at Crooked Intention, an almost 300 year old property at the head of San Domingo Creek near St Michaels, Maryland and encompassing almost 30 acres of nature preserve and the original manor house. New member, Sarita Moffit, arrived just after daylight and gamely set up on the pier in full sunlight. (Well there wasn't much sun at 7 AM). Sarita managed to do two inspired paintings by the time we quit at noon. The rest of us showed up around 9AM. Jack set up near the front of the house and did a great pastel of the home, and Meg and Gray did lovely colorful paintings of an old shed. Tim and Will set up in the shade near the water to take advantage of the breeze off the water. Will did a beautiful painting of a row boat on the shore, and Tim did a dynamic painting of one of the ancient trees on the property. I set up on a slight rise off on the side of the property, only feet away from three ancient graves dating to the early 1800's. My view was of the shoreline with an interesting pattern of sun and shadow of the lawn. Despite my entreaties to the resident ghosts, I deemed my painting a failure and went home and scraped it down. Funny, the "ghost" image left on the canvas was much more interesting!

Painters included Sarita Moffet, Meg Walsh and guest Gray Dodson, Tim Bell and guest Will Williams, Jack Pardoe, and Nancy Tankersley.
