The Nature Conservancy has joined with Washington Society of Landscape Painters to interpret precious conservancy preserves in Maryland and Virginia. Many of the images are featured in the Spring 2008 Nature Conservancy magazine. Over the course of a year, Washington Society of Landscape Painters artists visited The Nature Conservancy sites and sketched the preserves. The result is a body of work including plein air sketches and large studio paintings evoking the beauty of these exceptional properties. These paintings, in an exhibition entitled "Protected Landscapes: Paintings of The Nature Conservancy Preserves", will be exhibited at the Athenaeum Gallery in Alexandria, VA from November 13, 2008 to January 4, 2009, with an opening reception on Sunday, November 16 from 4-6 pm. For more details, see http://www.wslp.org/WSLPexhibitions.html. Additional paintings, sketches, and exhibit details are available at http://www.nature.org/magazine/spring2008/. Information on The Nature Conservancy partnership with WSLP is available in their Where We Work (Maryland) news article "Capturing the Beauty of the Landscape".
